Sugar hydrogenation–combined heat and mass transfer

Abstract

The combined internal diffusion and heat transfer was modeled for continuous sugar hydrogenation in a packed bed reactor in the presence of Ru/C catalyst. The steady-state model was based on simultaneous solution of mass and energy balances. The aim was to illustrate how these parabolic PDEs could be solved with a step-by-step calculation for a selected geometry. The adjustable shape factor made the method tunable for various geometries.
