To cope with the depletion of IPv4 addresses, several short-term solutions were developed. One short-term solution is to use private addresses and Network Address Translation (NAT). NAT enables inside network hosts to borrow a legitimate Internet IPv4 address while accessing Internet resources. When the requested traffic returns, the legitimate IPv4 address is repurposed and available for the next Internet request by an inside host.
