Introduction
Over the years working as a 3D artist, I have noticed that many of my best clients have been competent (even fantastic) artists. They have had a wonderful grasp of design principles and produce excellent work for clients large and small. The time that I have spent working as both a 3D artist and a graphic designer have lead me to the realization that one key element is missing in the workflow of the modern graphic designer: 3D skills. Clearly, the needs of a graphic designer do not include the depth of knowledge needed by a production 3D artist for film, television, or game design, but a basic understanding can set an artist apart in the field.
