3. Revolving a 3D object
In the previous chapter we looked briefly at using the Bend control to twist an extruded object around either the X or Y axis. But that’s only a small part of the capability of this control: it’s capable of much more dramatic results.
The Bend control can also be used to revolve an object as if it were on a lathe, or on a potter’s wheel. This gives us the freedom to design bottles, glasses, vases, spears, and just about any other object that has a rotational symmetry.
Where we used the Type tool to create our starting object previously, here we’ll see how Photoshop can create 3D objects from just about any source. We’ll begin by drawing a simple outline with the Brush tool, which we’ll then turn into a bottle.
