Although 3D printing is still in its infancy, the materials available are rapidly expanding, with new options becoming available almost every week. In the final chapters of this book, we describe how you can build a 3D printer that uses melted plastic filament to fabricate solid objects.

The specific type of thermoplastic used for 3D printing determines the temperature that must be used to melt it. Melting temperature, in turn, has an effect on the strength of the final object and the type of surface needed to let the first layer hold properly through the printing process.
