Material Considerations

MatterControl is used by 3D printers that feed filament into an extruder, which melts the filament and lays it down a layer at a time. Filament is a thick thread made of a variety of thermoplastic materials and typically sold in one-kilogram spools, though some manufacturers sell other sizes. Figure 7-1 shows a one-pound nylon spool and a one-kilogram spool of polylactic acid (PLA) plastic.
