A cognitive controller is represented as a graph with states and transitions. A state consists of a set of behaviors. Between states are transitions from one state to another. The transition goes in the direction of the transition arrow.

Each transition includes, as part of its definition, a test to determine whether a delegate should pass from one state to another. The test is enacted by a simple MAXScript. Even if you’ve never written a MAXScript before, you’ll find that the short scripts required for cognitive controllers are quite easy to write and use.
