In Chapter 8, the LTE radio-interface architecture was discussed with an overview of the functions and characteristics of the different protocol layers. Chapter 9 then gave an overview of the basic time–frequency structure of LTE transmissions, including the structure of the OFDM time–frequency grid being the fundamental physical resource on both uplink and downlink.
