20. Identity Theft and Social Media
Social networking is as much a part of modern life as a morning cup of coffee. Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn are the way most people communicate. With more than 500 million people on Facebook alone, you can expect that scammers and identity thieves will be there too, taking advantage of every trick in the book or on the computer to lure you into becoming a victim of identity theft. And it is dangerous out there. People who, without thinking, put their vacation travel plans on their Facebook page for the world to see can easily become victims of burglaries. Fortunately, if you know what the danger signals are, you can enjoy social media with less danger of becoming a victim of identity theft.
