Activity Beats Execution
The execution fads in business—just like strategic planning, management by objective, total quality, just-in-time, and other methods before these—have had their day. In their wake, these fads have left a predictable legacy of unproductive time and talk, as well as failed expectations.
Like most fashionable concepts of their decades, execution really hasn’t made much difference. Mainly, it’s hung a new title on something we’ve known all along that we need to do: move our organizations forward.
