Alternate Radio Delivery Systems
As discussed elsewhere in this book, radio broadcasting involves two basic processes—content creation and content delivery. Traditionally, the delivery component implied only over-the-air transmission via AM or FM broadcasting, but this is no longer the case. Thanks to the pervasiveness of the Internet, radio broadcasters now have other methods of delivering their content to listeners, as this chapter explains. The expansion of wireless broadband Internet access has had a significant impact here, placing these alternate delivery formats closer to parity with the traditionally high mobility of radio broadcasting.
