There are many areas in our lives in which we develop a certain resistance to learning and consequently go on performing actions that are ineffective.
Learning how to learn is a fundamental competence for a coach. It is one that affects the way you show up in life and who you can become. Your ability to learn has an impact on your effectiveness, productivity, and general well-being. Learning to learn is more of an emotional competency than an intellectual one; the emotions most needed to develop it are courage and openness. Courage is addressed in detail earlier in the book as one of the ESE competencies. Related to the emotion of courage is openness, described below.
