Introduction

At this point in the development of a project, the project manager should have broken down project deliverables into their smallest components called work activities, gathered information for each work activity, and arranged the activities in a work breakdown structure (WBS). Although it would seem as though the project manager could authorize the beginning of the project and the commencement of the first work activity, a critical step still remains in understanding the relationship that work activities have with each other and how these relationships influence the sequencing of work activities.
