I have a confession to make. I kind of hate user-generated content (or UGC, as it’s called). If you’re not familiar with it, it’s a particular kind of audience participation. Sometimes it takes the form of audience-submitted photos, video, or writing; sometimes the audience is role-playing; sometimes audience members are taking the driver’s seat in creating your narrative.

UGC is a great concept on paper. From an artistic point of view, it brings you closer to those in your audience and makes the resulting creation as much theirs as yours.
