14. Veterans’ Benefits
Although the last of the American veterans of World War I, Frank Buckles of West Virginia, died in 2011, there are still an estimated three million veterans of World War II who are still alive and, even though it is hard to believe for America’s baby boomers, those who served during the Vietnam War era are now generally old enough to be eligible for many veterans programs. Many lawyers are still not conversant in the various veterans’ benefit programs for which their elderly clients may be eligible, but more people are becoming aware of these potentially important benefits.
