A

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)—Regular daily activities that people generally do on their own, such as bathing, dressing, moving, and feeding oneself. The inability to do a certain number of these ADLs triggers the payment of benefits of a long-term care insurance policy.

adjusted basis—An income-tax term that relates to the initial price of property adjusted for certain additional costs related to the property (for example, a house to which the cost of improvements, such as a new bathroom) are added.
