What Is the Objective of This Chapter?

The objective of this chapter is to clarify the critical importance of preventing backsliding in process improvement efforts in an organization over time. Backsliding is what happens when the Act phase of the PDSA cycle or the Control phase of the DMAIC model are not followed over time. Yesterday’s gains are tomorrow’s losses. The prevention of backsliding (maintaining the current process’s performance) is just as important to process improvement efforts as the process improvement efforts themselves.
