1. Introduction

In this chapter, we explain why the science of economics must explicitly reflect upon values and adopt clear and transparent value stances. These stances would certainly differ among economists and their various research traditions, therefore posing a distinct challenge to the establishment of claims of scientific objectivity that are commensurable even within the research community of economists. We think that this reasoning falsely confronts values and objectivity in the context of economics as a performative science.
