You can send and receive electronic mail messages with pine, a screen-based mailer. The primary design objective in the early releases of pine was ease of use. To this end pine was endowed with extensive built-in documentation, safeguards against mishaps, and a clean and forgiving user interface.

Since the early releases, a number of advanced features have been added to the mailer, making it attractive to both the sophisticated and the naive user. Advanced features that are now available in pine include
