The Load-In and Setup

INTRODUCTION

This chapter examines events that occur at the beginning of stage time, between the start of load-in until the beginning of the focus session.

When the load-in for a production begins, it’s often greeted with many emotions: equal parts confidence, calm, worry, concern, and anxiety, typically mixed with a healthy dose of relief. A great deal of time has been spent analyzing, discussing, and preparing every aspect and contingency of the schedule planned to mount this production. Until now the execution of these efforts has always been referred to in the future tense. Finally, it’s the Monday morning of the load-in; the activities will begin to happen in the “now.”
