INTRODUCTION
Cloud computing is everywhere. Governments, business and not-for-profit organisations all make use of cloud computing for offsite data storage or to access ‘on demand’ computing power when capacity is required, via services such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud. Individuals too use cloud computing services when they access social media such as Facebook or WhatsApp. This chapter deals with the technical and business benefits of cloud computing, and explains what it is, how it developed and why it has become so ubiquitous in both our business and our personal lives.
