Few businesses make the entire product they sell. Most are reliant to a great extent on their supplier’s manufacturing processes. The sourcing of the raw materials, components, assemblies, and services that are so important to the business is a great responsibility. Engineering and design are responsible for the product design, including that provided by suppliers. This is likely to include some new technology and some overseas supply as well as existing suppliers. Engineering and design therefore have a large part to play in sourcing.
