The more complex plug-ins can seriously occupy the attention of your computer's CPU, which is why some of these are designed to take advantage of the second processor in dual-processor computers. If you have a Pro Tools TDM system, the TDM plug-ins use the DSP on your TDM hardware instead. And both Logic Audio and Digital Performer can use TDM plug-ins with the TDM hardware. But Cubase VST and Nuendo cannot use the TDM cards, so two companies – TC|Works and Universal Audio – have developed PCI cards containing processors dedicated to running VST plug-ins.
