Industry Organization and Competition
The United States textile industry is highly fragmented. Whereas a few major players define most industries, there are over 8,000 textile establishments in the U.S., and no major textile firm has more than 2 percent share of the market. Firms are concentrated in the Southeast U.S., with North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama as major producers. California also has a large textile industry due to its ports that provide access to China and Mexico.
