Structure of the Furniture Industry
The furniture business is composed of a number of discrete parts identified by as well as related to but outside the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for the furniture segment. Furnishing elements and décor round out a fuller treatment of this market and are often bundled together to appeal to consumers as part of a total “lifestyle,” room, or office entity concept. This chapter examines the global supply chain and logistical elements that pull together all parts involved in the manufacture and retail network, from lumber to living room and beds to blinds.1 This process is expanded in other chapters as well for a closer look at component elements.
