Organizing Data
I am from the South, and as many Southerners
can attest, we think our mama’s and our grandma’s cooking
are the best! My grandmother, Mama D., handwrote all of her recipes
on small pieces of paper, and my mom handed them down to me a few
years ago. The recipes were in one big envelope with no organization
at all! I had to take time to go through the recipes, organize them
into categories, and put them into a book for display. This was a
part of my history, and I not only wanted to use the recipes, but
I wanted to showcase them as well.
Just as you would organize
ingredients when you are getting ready to cook a recipe, you review
your collected data and establish a context for it.
