This chapter is intended to present a profile of the main minority communities and also some of the deprived and underprivileged sections of the Indian society. The profile broadly covers their demographic aspects, status of literacy and education, health and extent of malnutrition, work and issues of poverty, and conditions of women and children among these minorities and deprived sections.
