Introduction: The Basics of Mixed-Design ANOVA

This chapter discusses analysis of variance procedures that are appropriate for studies that include both repeated-measures factors and between-subjects factors. These research designs are often referred to as mixed designs.

A mixed-design ANOVA is similar to the factorial ANOVA discussed in Chapter 10, “Factorial ANOVA with Two Between-Group Factors,” in that the procedure discussed in Chapter 10 assumes that the criterion variable is assessed on an interval or ratio scale and that the predictor variables are assessed on a nominal scale.
