Sometimes a boss can be too rigid, feeling it necessary to enforce the company rules even when it might be more productive to stretch or change the rules. As the employee, you need to decide if you will follow the rules, because that’s the easiest way to go, or work to change the rules so you can be more productive.
Often you can accomplish change if you can show there is a better way to do something that can pay off with superior results. Yet, whenever you are dealing with change, you are also dealing with vested interests in the current ways of doing things.
