Sometimes politics rears its ugly head when you feel like you have to hire someone because your own boss wants you to, and then you have problems with that person. The person may be incompetent, lazy, a prima donna, whatever, but you feel your hands are tied because that person is protected by the boss above you. It’s like that person has a patron behind him or her and you feel like you’re caught in the middle. You have hired the employee, but in fact he or she answers to someone above you—the big boss who has the power to discipline or fire you.
