As the stories in the previous chapters have illustrated, it can be difficult to figure out what to do when dealing with a particular employee, and there are several possible alternatives in any given situation. You have to take many factors into consideration, and an optimal solution isn’t always possible; rather, you have to pick the most reasonable alternative at the time. To help you decide, factor in your office culture; personal style; the employee’s employment history (how long on the job, any previous problems); how serious the breach; the importance of the employee’s work; and how easy it will be to find a replacement, should you be considering termination.
