Introduction

Drucker believed that certain needs of society could be met most effectively by the work of well-managed social sector organizations. If effectively managed, these organizations could become powerful vehicles for meeting human needs and for alleviating human suffering. They could also fulfill needs of their volunteers for individual achievement and citizenship within a community. No other organization earned as much praise from Drucker for its work in meeting human needs and for developing its volunteers as The Salvation Army.
