Bob Buford discussed the idea of developing a systematic program that would help move people from success to significance for the benefit of society. In Drucker’s body of knowledge this subject falls under the category “managing oneself.”
The subject of managing oneself first appeared in published form as chapter 6 (pp. 161–96) of Drucker’s Management Challenges for the 21st Century (1999). A portion of that chapter, with the same title, appeared in the March–April 1999 issue of Harvard Business Review (HBR) and was later reprinted as an HBR Classic in January 2005.
