First things first, what is this elusive thing called accessibility? According to the W3C, web accessibility is a set of techniques and practices in web design and development to ensure that a website is effectively accessible by all people, regardless of their physical or cognitive abilities. This way everyone can have access to information equally.¹ In this chapter we’ll first define web accessibility and then look at the specific guidelines that help govern this requirement.
