So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

BASIC was originally developed at Dartmouth College for teaching beginners how to program. The FORTRAN programming language was a bit too complex for nonmathematical students to learn quickly enough to use it in their studies. John Kemeny and Thomas Kurtz, who taught at Dartmouth, used FORTRAN as a foundation for creating BASIC. BASIC stands for Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code, a name that is more foreboding than the language itself.
