WHEN A PARENT HOLDS A TODDLER and points to the moon saying “that’s the moon,” the toddler certainly has an awareness of the bright object in the sky. The toddler may learn that the light in the sky is called “moon,” but has no understanding of what and where the moon is. By the time a child is seven or eight, understanding of the moon has grown considerably.
