Video processing can be defined as analysis of the content of the video to obtain an understanding of the scene that it describes. It is an essential component of a number of technologies, including video surveillance, robotics, and multimedia. From a basic science perspective, methods in video analysis are motivated by the need to develop machine algorithms that can mimic the capabilities of human (and other animal) visual systems.
