Joel Trussell received degrees from Georgia Tech (B.S.), Florida State (M.S.), and the University of New Mexico (Ph.D.). He joined the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, Los Alamos, NM, in 1969 where he began working in the image and signal processing in 1971. During 1978–1979, he was a Visiting Professor at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland where he worked with both the university and with industry on image processing problems.
