In the following sections I have listed several steps you can take to coach your team members as they progress through selecting, staging, managing, and following up on a job assignment.
Sometimes people are attracted to job assignments for the wrong reasons. They may hear of a major work project that is being personally sponsored by a senior executive and automatically decide that this is their big opportunity. They can also become so infatuated with the challenge of working on an interesting technical problem that they don't stop to consider the extensive time commitments that will be required of them. Finally, they may not consider whether the project is the best match to their development needs.
