Perhaps Michael Chekhov’s greatest gift to teachers of his technique is that of freedom. He specifically encourages us to identify the challenge that needs solving or the lesson we wish to share and then create our own exercises to fill that objective. Anjalee Deshpande Hutchinson has taken his gift of freedom and done just this over the past decade. Now she shares with us her developments with a focus on what I believe is an under-addressed subject: how the form of the stage changes the actor’s job.
