Preface

This is a book of acting exercises for use in academic and professional theatre. All these exercises are based on the work of Michael Chekhov and the Michael Chekhov acting technique. The exercises were selected to be included in this text because they are particularly useful for productions staged in the round, thrust, alley or site specific. All of the exercises are ‘riffs’ on Michael Chekhov’s original methodology. Obviously nothing can replace the original masterworks To the Actor and On the Technique of Acting by Michael Chekhov, but the exercises in this book offer a new way in for the beginner and an expansion of the repertoire for the master practitioner.
