Chapter 5. Display Lists and Display Objects
Applications for the Flash Platform are primarily oriented around displaying graphics and information. The underlying ActionScript functionality addresses how these graphics and bits of information function and how they are displayed. New to ActionScript 3 is the way Flash renders visual objects. Visual objects, or display objects, are added to the stage (and are visible) through the display list. The display list manages the hierarchy of display objects, and the display objects themselves are the visible elements. This methodology is referred to as display programming in the programming world.
