I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

The plan for the book came out of four dedicated years, from 2001 to 2004, at the National Science Foundation (NSF) as program director in the Division of Electrical and Communication Systems, where I was responsible for power and energy system program and also led the initiative called Electric Power Networks Efficiency and Security (EPNES), which is an interdisciplinary program aimed at unifying knowledge in economics, system theory, and power system and controls to solve the grand challenges of future electric power grids. During this time, we began to ask critical questions of how to modernize the grid and how to develop new tools that will have foresight and adaptiveness and then to provide a global optimization solution ...
