To illustrate how quickly the After Effects landscape can change, this section on extruding specific types of layers to create 3D objects from the previous edition, although not obsolete, is now extra information—given the alternative of integrating Cinema 4D scenes. Only text or shape layers can be extruded into 3D shapes, and simple primitives, such as a sphere or torus, are not possible. But the layers can be manipulated directly in a composition just as you would any other type of layer.
