Transform Controls in the Timeline
Accessing position, scale, and rotation in the Composition panel is a great way to quickly move assets around and get your layout where you want it visually. When it comes time to animate, we need a more precise and numeric interface. Accessing the same controls as above, but in the timeline, allows for just that.
Configuring the Timeline
The timeline is where we do most of our work in After Effects. We currently have three layers—one for the ship, one for the beam, and one for the background. This is because the Illustrator file we imported was created with three top-level layers.
Let’s organize the timeline a little. I’m not worried about the Beam layer just now.
