Chapter Nine. Working with Symbols

Symbols are one of the great time-saving features in Fireworks, and they’ve been around since the beginning of the application. Symbols are a way to contain multiple objects within a single asset but still have quick access to editing those objects. They come in very handy if you are using an object over and over again—for example, a navigation button or a logo. Symbols can contain a single object, or they can contain text, vectors, and bitmaps, each with their own Live Filter attributes.

A symbol is a master version of a graphic. When you place a symbol on the canvas, you’re actually placing a copy of the symbol, which is known as an instance.
