Chapter 8. Integrating Multiple Bitrates
Most Web video formats, including Microsoft Windows Media and Real Video, have the capability to include multiple data rates, or multiple bit rates (MBR), for audio and video tracks within a single file. While Flash Video does not offer this feature, you can create the same user experience with a bit of ActionScript code and a SMIL file. SMIL, which stands for Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language, is a Web standard proposed by the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium), and most popularly used by Real Player and QuickTime Player.
