Many fine books have been written about typography, and you should own some of them. (Robert Bringhurst’s Elements of Typographic Style, Fourth Edition [Hartley and Marks Publishers, 2013] and Ellen Lupton’s Thinking with Type, 2nd Revised and Expanded Edition [Princeton Architectural Press, 2010] come to mind.)
