It was mid-October and trees were brilliant with color. I asked my four-year-old neighbor to identify the color of a leaf that I’d picked up. Although insulted that I would ask this of such a big boy, he answered clearly, “orange!”
I could hear “obviously” in his voice. Luckily, he’s not a photographer or graphic designer: the kind of people who try every day, often unsuccessfully, to use numbers (RGB or CMYK values, for example) to specify a color. If my small neighbor had used numbers, we may have disagreed.
