ASP.NET 2.0 MEMBERSHIP, ROLE, and user profile services and their companion ASP.NET AJAX application services provide a complete membership, role, and profiles offering on both the client and the server. The addition of the application services and the supporting proxy classes contained in the Microsoft AJAX Library extend the ability to work with these server-based technologies onto the client, providing a much needed lightweight alternative to an otherwise heavy server control–based experience.
